The BoboVR Z3 is an inexpensive plastic HMD of Chinese origin that has a few luxuries that other HMDs in the same price range don’t. It’s not an earth-shattering product by any means, but BoboVR have tried to make using it as pleasant as possible for the money.
- Convenient ability to adjust the optics whilst the phone is in the HMD
- Comfortable
- Nothing special beyond the standard Cardboard Compatible Headset

Recomended Not RecomendedThe BoboVR Z3 is an inexpensive plastic HMD of Chinese origin that has a few luxuries that other HMDs in the same price range don’t. It’s not an earth-shattering product by any means, but BoboVR have tried to make using it as pleasant as possible for the money.
The HMD has lots of faux leather detailing to make it more comfortable to wear. There’s a face cushion as well as a 3-way head strap with a leather pad at the back where the straps meet.
The lenses are acrylic glass and measure about 42mm. BoboVR say that they are laser-cut and polished five times before installation. The lenses consist of eight-layers of “nanophase materials”, although it’s unclear what this actually means for the quality of the optics.
The front cover where you insert your phone is held closed magnetically, which might be concern for some who’d rather trust a mechanical solution.
The BoboVR accommodates phones with screen sizes from four inches to six inches. There’s ample venting based on the product shots, which is good since many of these closed case plastic HMDs tend to make phones overheat.
There’s also a removable section of the front cover so that you can also use AR applications, which is a nice touch.
BoboVR have put the adjustment knobs in easy to reach places and it seems that it should be possible to easily adjust the optics without having to remove the actual HMD. They also offer an optional package that comes with a Bluetooth gamepad, which has matching colors with the Z3.
