This mobile case HMD from Durovis is another attempt to take the Google Cardboard concept and make it just durable enough to stand up to daily use.
To say that the Dive 5 is minimalist is an understatement. It’s not the most anemic HMD on the market, but it certainly looks skeletal compared to other mobile case HMDs.
- Interesting Minimalist Design
- Nothing Special about the Unit Technically

To say that the Dive 5 is minimalist is an understatement. It’s not the most anemic HMD on the market, but it certainly looks skeletal compared to other mobile case HMDs.
Despite not being made of cardboard, the Durovis as standard shipped with the same 25mm lenses and support for phones up to five inches.
Interestingly, Durovis at first sold the cardboard magnet as an addon, but new Dive 5 units come with it built in. There is also a lens upgrade kit taking the lenses to 32mm, but new Dive 5s already have the larger lenses built in.
Although the Dive 5 doesn’t come with any onboard sensors, Durovis has developed their own software development kit that cuts down on latency in mobile VR apps.
Since there’s nothing special about the Dive itself, Durovis had to artificially limit access to the nicer features of their plugin. Each unit includes a “Durovis Owner’s Card” which has a unique code. You only get the one according to the manual included with the Dive 5. If you share it or lose it, you’re out of luck.
If the Durovis 5’s size limit of five inches is too small for your tastes, there’s also the Dive 7, which can handle devices up to (you guessed it) seven inches in size.
