VRS OVERALL RATINGRecomended Not Recomended
The Virtoba X5 is apparently a different branding for the BOBOVR Z4, but whatever you call it this HMD has an interesting set of features.
In terms of looks it’s probably one of the fancier products in this category. It’s all glossy plastic, fake silver knobs and interesting bits.
With most of these HMD cases all the focus is on the visual bits. These are things like the lenses, the lens adjustments and the field of view. While the X5 has a fantastic 120-degree FOV rating, it’s best trick has to do with your ears.
Yes, those are some built-in earphones that you see. A cynical person might say that this makes the X5 look more like top-end HMDs. You know, the Vive and Oculus Rift. A less cynical person would say that this is a cool addition for people who don’t want to fiddle with separate headphones and audio cables.
At this price the headphones are bound to be of middling quality, but for specific use cases it’ nice to have the option of integrated headphones.
Thanks to the addition of the headphones the X5 is a bit heavier than the competition, but if you were going to wear headphones anyway it all comes out even.
It should also be noted that the claimed 120-degree FOV is really only possible with the larger iPhone 6 model, for obvious reasons. If you do have the right phone for this HMD it’s one of the slickest packages out there.
