A pricey mobile VR solution to be sure but with Zeiss being a world-leader in optics there is a lot of quality to match the price.

Zeiss is a world-famous leader in optics. Just about every high end lens you see is marked with the little “Zeiss” logo. So maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise that the company made an attempt at creating a mobile VR HMD. After all, the most technologically complex part of such an HMD (besides the phone itself) is the lens in front of each eye. Just about anyone can make a plastic mold, but Zeiss knows lenses better than almost anyone else.
It’s also a very good looking HMD case. It looks about as premium as the price actually is. Perhaps even a bit more expensive. It’s pricey, but next to something like the Gear VR the styling stands up very well.
Using custom phone trays there are a few models that will fit in the precision trays. Which means you don’t need to worry about centering and placement. On the other hand, you can only use that particular phone with that tray. Happily you can also get a universal tray and live with a bit of adjustment.
By all accounts the lenses are very good and it’s great that the whole thing can be worn with glasses, which you’ll need since there is neither IPD nor focus adjustment. The whole point though, is that Zeiss claims their lenses remove the need for mechanical adjustment. You just wear them and it’s all supposed to work. Of course, your mileage may vary.
